Former 14 Corps Commander Lt. Gen. P.J.S. Pannu tells ThePrint China's LAC action came after joint exercise with India, like Pakistan attacked Kargil despite confidence-building measures.
It’s hard to build a house, run a business, or do anything without paying bribes. And yet, citizens’ anger about this open, unchecked corruption won’t erupt into Anna Hazare-type rallies.
As many as 21 policy reforms are under implementation following Invest Kerala Global Summit, as LDF govt works to change perception that the state is not conducive to businesses.
Amid continued concerns over cross-border terrorism, General Upendra Dwivedi further warned the neighbour that India will not show restraint if there is an Op Sindoor 2.0.
Pakistan’s army has been a rentier force available to a reasonable bidder. It has never come to the aid of any Muslims including Palestinians or the Gazans, except making noises here and there.
I do hold the view that specific strategies and tactics employed along LOC and LAC should not not be discussed in public.
Here an erstwhile Corps Commander of the Indian Army talks of broad strategies and the Indian perception of the LAC in the media. I am not faulting that. I am not even complaining that we do not get to know the Chinese perception from anybody Chinese – not its political leaders, not its press and least of all not from erstwhile Chinese military commanders who held positions along the LAC. After all, that I suppose,is the difference between China and India. It would appear that this openness in India and the secrecy in China is being used by China to its advantage. In reality it may not be so. As an open democratic Nation, we have to leverage these discussions.
As is evident in this article the LAC of over 3500 kms has always been nebulous, where at places, both sides have been “claiming” same territories. As the General has brought out the name LAC is a misnomer. Nobody here is in control. It is just domination, which again is a moving part, if I may. The scene is just apt for the Chinese way of doing things – with a string of of lies, deception and cunning to gnaw into additional territories now and then. This has been going on to China’s advantage for decades. China avoids coming to the table for a concrete settlement. It is nobody’s guess that if there is a peaceful IB with China it is advantage India, in the region.
Is it any different now? Yes. Articles like this and the flood of public discussions in various media platforms on Indo-China relations is the difference. This has never happened before. The tactics and local strategies (say in finger area, Dempsang etc…) are not important in these discussion and are best avoided. Such discussions where various “experts” on China, economy, defense, international relations, trade et al will hopefully prepare the Nation to adopt a comprehensive strategy to deal with China with knowledgeable public support, so important in a democracy like India. The strategy has to straddle defence, economy, trade, culture, international relations, technology, alliances, regional demography and above all work largely in favour of Indian interests.
I know, I am also as vague as everybody else. Hopefully from this pervasive vagueness, there will emerge a coherent strategy.
What is deception? China is not India’s friend and his intentions are well known but when Indian political leaders, Baeurocrates are cheating themselves , no one should be blamed. Only one political leader had the courage and who was George Fernandez and he publically declared China no. one enemy of India. It may be possible the involvement of China in the planning of Kargil intrusion in 1999.
Is there anything useful that this general is telling in this article? It could well be coming from an bystander and one wouldn’t know the difference. Such a plain and trivial description.
Very humble very decent attitude. for a Giant neighbor………wish same attitude for Pakistan a much smaller nation………..Keeping in view India has refused to fight China despite all provocations……….perhaps India should resolve Siachen Glacier dispute with Pakistan……….The main argument of keeping Siachen Glacier dispute alive was that it had some strategic value against China…..now that India has decided not to fight China why linger on with insane Siachen Glacier dispute with Pakistan !!!
Free Tibet and all problems will go away!

Why is that only India is at the receiving end of these misadventures? STOP blaming our neighbors, we need to stop reacting

Unfortunately, China is not Pakistan.
