Standing up to America is usually not a personal risk for a leader in India. Any suggestions of foreign pressure unites India behind who they see as leading them in that fight.
No one is perfect. But realizing is first step. Accepting as it own pit falls. But perfection is achieved before destruction but one has to strive for it as it is the peak ready to fall.
You did well to talk to the chief justice himself. Even the greatest of all investigations may not be without flaws. Publishing an investigative story without the view points of the person in question is incorrect. When the the person in question is the torchbearer of the judiciary, there is always an instinct that stops journalsts or the public in their tracks . That’s because the judges are expected to be aloof, and away, from the media glare unlike politicians.
Excellent article, Shekhar ji. I’m glad to have rediscovered you on this page; you remain a highly respected “Press-man” . Keep writing in your inimitable style. Best wishes.
My friend was suspended from his post of Principal of a Polytechnic college in Jharkhand. He wrote a 20- page letter to Retired J Anand, who was then heading the NHRC. His letter was not even acknowledged. Then he wrote a 200-page letter in English. He received an acknowledgement. And after sometime his sustenance allowance was released by the Jharkhand govt. Nothing more and nothing less than this the NHRC did for him. So their is a feudal mind set in those who sit in top positions of Institutions. A letter in Hindi doesn’t convey the pain one suffers, but the one in English did, in this case. My friend was a Gold Medallist in Mechanical engineering from Bhagalpur Engineering College, and a first class M.Tech from IIT Kanpur, and went on to do his PhD from IIT Delhi, which he left to take up a job. This biographical information is given lest people think he couldn’t write English.
Mr Gupta you weren’t so diligent when you castigated the three Armed Forces Chiefs in your editorial after the 6th Pay Commission. You didn’t even print my letter in response. And, what about your famous faux pas for which you got the nickname Shekhar Coupta!
A spineless Journalist, Sekhar Gupta, who consults Minister Shushma Swaraj about his scoop. That means, he wasn’t confident about himself and his scoop! And last of all he goes and meets late J Anand to verify his facts in the scoop and comes back “deflated”.Please give up Journalism. You are not a model worth emulation.
