Standing up to America is usually not a personal risk for a leader in India. Any suggestions of foreign pressure unites India behind who they see as leading them in that fight.
After Biden announced Kamla as is running mate, Indian Sickulars India have almost concluded that Democrates are going to win the Presidential election in Nov 2020. Our sickular crowd is viscerally opposed to Trump just as it is to Modi in India and it would be too trilled to see Trump out of White House soon. Hence, news of Democrats titling to India and how Kamla Harris can help India have started coming up from all the usual suspected quarters.
While Americans will decide who there next President would be, a few things are clear: irrespective of whether Trump or Biden, USA cannot afford to ignore India given that US China relations have reached its nadir and are unlikely to improve soon. US India strategic interests are now merging strongly given this as well as scheduled US withdrawal from Afghanistan and changes in the Middle East. Besides, India is a big customer for US arms and oil as well. India certainly needs USA to be on its side as well.
Hence, India and Modi should welcome whoever is the next President. If Biden is elected, the nuisance of sickulars in India and liberals in USA will increase. But for the Americans, Trump is perhaps a better choice given his strong America First policies. Biden is of course a seasoned politician and deserved to be President. So it will be a good fight.
I couldn’t agree more…just two observations..given the extreme position the Trump Administration has taken against China it would be difficult for Biden to walk that back hence the strategic need for a regional ally in India..two Bidens state of mental health..is he going to be an effective President or a vessel to be manipulated by the radical identitarian left of the Democratic party..the signs are not encouraging
But Modi asked us to vote for Trump!!!! (When in Dallas, He had said “Ab ki baar, Trump Sarkaar”.) Now you are asking us to choose between our green cards and Modi. Not fair.
