US President-elect Donald Trump sides with Tesla CEO & future co-head of Department of Government Efficiency in debate over continuing use of the visa for foreign tech workers.
Trump had instituted Proclamation 10052 in June 2020, halting the processing of non-immigrant H-1B, L-1, H-2B & J-1 visas, based on alleged potential risk to the US labour market.
On 7 January, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced to do away with the traditional lottery system in deciding the successful applicants for the H-1B visas.
The final rule will improve the accuracy of prevailing wages paid to foreign workers by bringing them in line with the wages paid to similarly employed US workers.
The policies set aside were one that required employers to pay foreign workers on H-1B significantly higher wages & another that narrowed eligibility valued by US tech firms.
