CRPF claims that the muzzle it now uses in J&K diverts 90% pellets in a downward direction, concentrating the hit on the lower part of the body, away from the eyes.
Wajahat Saeed Khan on Twitter claimed that a Muslim Kashmiri policeman shot five Indian CRPF personnel after they refused to let a pregnant woman pass.
Two letters requesting for a meeting have been written to Amit Shah by former Inspector Generals of Police (CRPF) – V.P.S. Panwar and S.S. Sandhu – on behalf of the paramilitary forces.
Voter turnout may have been dismal in Kashmir but Lok Sabha polls passed off without any major incidents of violence, thanks to a slew of security measures.
An untold story of these polls is the harrowing journeys paramilitary jawans make for the election process. ThePrint travelled with a CRPF contingent from Kannur to Muzaffarpur.
The disastrous paper leak aside, the June 2024 NET brought in countless complaints from students regarding the quality of exam centres allotted. And the format shifted from computer based to the manual OMR.
According to a statement by the airport, commercial operations likely to begin next year 'in view of the current construction status'. It was supposed to commence operations by 2024 end.
Recent high-profile visit was of US National Security Adviser this month during which a number of key issues, including military cooperation, was discussed by both sides.
Changed reality for Modi govt in its 3rd innings is by no means rise of a new phenomenon. It's a return to old normal where even majorities had to routinely wrestle with storied million mutinies.
Dear Rajiv and Rashid, I have trekked in the Jammu and Kashmir valley in 1976 and 1977 in Kishtwar region and Anantnaag region. I have camped at a altitude of 12000 ft for over a month and interacted with locals and the Gujjar shepherds. There was no hostilities then and religous differentiation. Everyone lived in harmony as the citizens of India. The army never had to resort to such extreme measures. But when extremists started approaching army posts with AK-47 hidden under their ponchos and opening indiscriminate fire killing soldiers on duty then the army had to take retaliatory action. Would you prefer that the Army hit back to stone pelters in kind. I have seen army personal injured by stones and bricks and are unable to retaliate due to restrictions. So stop pelting them with stones and there will be no pellets in retaliation in self defence. Kashmir is a electorate and all matters can be settled by dailog. Article 370 and 35A have made you outcastes for the past 70 years. You now have the opportunity to become one with the Nation and prosper
It is unfortunate, that our governments of various times & especially the current one, have messed up the role & image of the ‘Army’ (External Defensive Offense Organisation), with that of the CAPFs (Internal Security Organisations), under habitual & prolonged usage of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act !?!
Disgusting ! The security forces , the armed forces are meant for protecting citizens on the borders where enemy armed forces are threatening the sovereignty of the country .
It’s a pity in Kashmir , these armed forces are used to kill & injure unarmed civilians . Using guns to kill stone pelters is a crime against humanity . Guns against stones doesn’t justify this sort of inhumane action.

Dear Ananya, I have the privilege of going through your article.
I have seen the interiors and inaccessible places of Kashmir in my childhood, adolescense and youth – when, let aside present day violence, the beautiful valley was more safe than any other tourist attraction in India.
I happen to be a devout Kashmiri Brahmin by accident of birth in a family, and hold pride in my lineage and religious beliefs.
In the words of an elderly person, do take note of the fact that when the pellets hit you below the torso, it still pains like hell.
We Kashmiris are a species of untouchables, the venom spewed on our Muslim brethren CITIZENS OF INDIA , by people who have never seen the soil of Kashmir – OR – at most have gone there for a honeymoon or a sojourn – is beyond comprehension.
Believe me, like all else most Kashmiris sans religion want a secure better life with education, jobs, shelter, trade, electricity, etc.
THE RECENT SPATE OF PUBLIC CONDEMNATION AND HATRED SPEWED OUT TO KASHMIRIS WILL NOT FAIL TO BE A PART OF A PROCESS THAT WILL ALIENATE THEM.
Do moderate our words. Kashmiri women being fair skinned are not up for grabs by abrogation of 370
Dear Rajiv,
You say: “when, let aside present day violence, the beautiful valley was more safe than any other tourist attraction in India.”
This has NOT been true of Kashmir for around 30 years. The people have changed irredeemably. The situation is practically beyond salvage. This has been true for a generation at least. Even educated journalists from Kashmir cannot see that what they are saying will turn the rest of India against them.
A tribal mentality has taken over. Kashmiri culture is no longer a civilization, but a tribal culture. The violence has turned the masses of Kashmir into a tribal despotism. Journalists and elderly separatists defend the violence on the street, and this violence dicates who will live, and who will leave or die.
For all the self-indulgent nonsense you have spouted, I challenge you to go and stay in Kashmir for a year, without security.
