The Citizenship Amendment Act, or CAA, is a law passed by the Indian Parliament in 2019. It aims to amend the country’s citizenship laws, defines illegal immigrants and lays down the rules and prerequisites for applying for Indian citizenship. It allows minorities of six communities, namely Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians, from India’s neighboring countries — Pakistan, Afghanistan, or Bangladesh — who entered India before 31 December 2014 to get citizenship more easily on the grounds of religious persecution.
The tentacles of history are difficult to eradicate. It was the Bengali Muslims of India who laid foundations of Jinnah’s dream in 1905 by the division of Bengal. The RSS was born after that. It was Calcutta Killings of 1946 that spurred the seeds of partition of India. Forget 1971 and liberation of Bangladesh. One who forgets history are doomed to repeat it. Therefore don’t overstretch. Implementation of CAA has started with the recognition of those who are in India and were denied civic rights. NRC will be required to identify citizens and residents if Indian economy is to grow faster than anything in the vicinity that will potentially invite migrant labour who are only guest workers and not citizens.
After many many years, Bangladesh has admitted they have illegal people in India. India can keep the friendship and flood the country with the illegals from Bangladesh and change the demographic composition permanently. Another Kashmir war will start at the border. Either way, India will lose. It is better to lose friendship than the land. Let Bangladesh import everything from Pakistan. The glue of religion is stronger and thicker than the blood.
Per capita GDP of Bangladesh is much higher than WB, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura etc.
People go from poorer area to a richer area and not the other way round. If there is one thing that has greater prominence than religion, it’s money.
So let’s remove our myopic glasses off and realise that Bangladesh is a friendly country that cooperates with us on catching terrorists. We probably have a thing or two to learn from them wrt laser focus on becoming a manufacturing power house.
Do you know there is no political group subsidy like free ration for life, special opportunities, reservations. There is one law and no non-Muslim has extraordinary rights including political freedom. Each one -regardless of religion – has to earn for his livelihood. And people rush for visas of all kinds. Those educated seek shelter in Australia, NZ, Canada while the rest of the world is closed for them. Those not so well educated seek work including toilet cleaning in countries of SE Asia, Middle East and visas are no longer available to them.
Ignorance is bliss but add ‘should not lead to blindness’.
