Ajit Pawar, popularly called Ajit Dada, is a prominent Maharashtra politician, and nephew of Sharad Pawar, the co-founder of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and former union minister.
In 2023, Ajit Pawar, along with some MLAs, split from the NCP and joined the Eknath Shinde-BJP government in the state. He then went on to serve as a co-deputy CM along with the BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis under CM Eknath Shinde. A year prior to this, Ajit Pawar was the leader of the opposition in the state assembly and the finance minister for three years under the then MVA government of the Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena. Pawar has a history of defections; in 2019, too, he defected from the party to become the Deputy CM under Fadnavis, which lasted just a few days.
Ajit Pawar is an MLA from Baramati, a family constituency for the Pawars. He has represented Baramati in the Vidhan Sabha since 1995, and previously served as Minister of State for Agriculture and Power, Minister of State for Soil Conservation, Power, and Planning in 1992, and Cabinet Minister responsible for the Irrigation Department in 1999.

Banzai seems to have become a fan of Supriya Pawar. Pawar is a regional casteist leader with influence only in Western Maharashtra.
The lesson to learn from Pawar family’s performance in the recent monkey tricks in the formation of the government is that one should not be transparent when one is cheating and taking people for a ride because although the persons being taken for a ride may not catch on (the husband is the last person to know if the wife is an adultress) but the public sees most of the game.
In this case, Uddhav Thackeray has yet not realised that he has unknowingly handed over Balasaheb’s remote to Pawar and Phadnavis has apparently realised that he was blinded by his lust for power and did not then realise that Ajit Pawar was planted by his uncle to make a fool of the BJP, Modi and Shah. Just consider:
1. Uddhav was trying to be a “bhakt” on his own terms all these years. But did not succeed and hence left the NDA.
2. Uddhav has now become a ‘retainer’ of the “family” and has presented Balasaheb’s “remote” to Pawar on a plate.
3. Ajit Pawar helped Uddhav in becoming a ‘retainer’.
4. Sanjay Raut remained a joker entertaining every one.
The overall impact is that Balasaheb is now called “वंदनीय” (worshipful) instead of “हिंदू सम्राट” (Hindu Emperor).
Bamzai can now decide as to who are the main players; “man of the match and the series”, best batsman, the best fielder and the best bowler and from whom to learn lessons, if at all. Supriya Sule shall figure prominently as some one working behind the scenes.
While Khan market is understandable and it existed before the word and its meaning became popular, the same is not true for Lutyens’ Delhi. Hardly a month back Ms. Bamzai was a fan of Mrs. Amruta Fadnavis and sang paeans to her. Now the loyalty seems to have shifted overnight to Mrs. Supriya Sule.
