New Delhi: The central government announced Wednesday that Khelo India medal winners will now be eligible for government jobs. The eligibility will extend to winners of medals from the Khelo India Youth, University, Para, and Winter Games.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur made this announcement on Wednesday.

“In keeping with our PM Narendra Modi ji’s vision of a robust sports ecosystem, nurturing talent at grassroots level and turning sports into a lucrative and viable career option, Khelo India Athletes will now be eligible for government jobs,” he said.

To be eligible for the government job, the athlete has to have won the Khelo India medal in any of the four categories, youth, university, para, or winter games. Those winning medals from the School Games Federation of India will also be eligible for employment.

Apart from this, the government has also clarified the eligibility criteria for national and international chess competitions.
