New Delhi: Ahead of India’s FIFA World Cup 2026 and the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) Asia Cup 2027 preliminary joint qualification round two match against Afghanistan, the Indian head coach, Igor Stimac, said that a draw is the same as a loss for them.

The Indian senior men’s team will look to pocket full points as they take on Afghanistan in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027 Preliminary Joint Qualification round two on Tuesday, March 26, at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, at 19:00 IST.

Stimac said that the team is positive and looking forward to the match against Afghanistan. He said that a draw is the same as a loss for them. He added that the team needs to make things easier for the June game against Kuwait. In their previous meeting just four days ago, the Blue Tigers were held to a goalless draw by Afghanistan on Saudi Arabian soil.

The Indian team is leading the table with nine points after three matches played. With one win, Kuwait is at the second place in the group. The top two teams in the group will qualify for the third round of the World Cup qualifiers and book their berth at the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
