Flipkart turns heads with grand reveal. It’s now sponsor of Namibia’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad

New Delhi: As Namibian cricketers stepped onto the field at the Arun Jaitley Stadium here to face India, the Flipkart logo on their jerseys became a topic of conversation. As the official sponsor of the Namibia National Cricket Team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, Flipkart’s logo features prominently on the shoulders of the Namibian players.

It quickly triggered curiosity and debate on social media, particularly because Flipkart does not operate in Namibia. “How they got Flipkart as sponsors man? Cricket Namibia as always cooking (sic),” an X user posted.

Flipkart responded playfully, writing, “Call us chefs cause we’re cooking something. Grand reveal soon…”

Soon after, the Indian e-commerce giant rolled out an advertisement, explaining that by becoming the primary sponsor of Namibia, it secures uncontested brand space on the team’s jersey. This, Flipkart said, ensures that its logo remains clearly visible in every match Namibia plays throughout the tournament.

Namibia’s placement in Group A further strengthens the strategy. The team is scheduled to play high-profile fixtures against India and Pakistan at major venues, including Arun Jaitley Stadium. These matches guarantee substantial domestic TV and digital viewership in India, offering Flipkart exposure comparable to that of sponsoring a top-tier team, but at a significantly lower cost.

Pratik Arun Shetty, vice-president, growth & marketing at Flipkart, emphasised the calculated intent behind the move. “Flipkart’s partnership with Team Namibia is an exciting opportunity and an unconventional choice that reflects our intent to show up meaningfully at one of the world’s biggest sporting events,” he said in an official statement.

“With Namibia in the same group as India, this association has the potential to create a significant impact that provides access to the same audience base, comparable viewership, identical logo visibility, and broadcast exposure during India’s matches. This positions Flipkart at the centre of the tournament’s most watched moments, reinforcing our scale and strong presence across the country,” the statement added.

Namibia, meanwhile, has earned a reputation in recent ICC tournaments as a competitive side capable of troubling stronger opponents. In their first match of the T20 World Cup, the Gerhard Erasmus-led side lost to Netherlands by 7 wickets.
