New Delhi: There may not be an exact recipe to build a unicorn startup but the entrepreneurial journeys of founders could help aspirants scale their businesses. This is precisely what Kushal Lodha and Ishan Sharma’s new book ‘Unlocking Unicorn Secrets: Behind the Scenes of India’s Billion-Dollar Start-ups’ aims to do.

Lodha and Sharma’s book chronicles the pathways that some of India’s new-age founders took, the challenges faced by them and how they overcame those.

Published by Penguin India, ‘Unlocking Unicorn Secrets’ will be released on 31 August on SoftCover, ThePrint’s online venue to launch non-fiction books.

In the financial world, unicorn is a startup that is privately owned with a valuation that exceeds $1 billion. Companies need to have solid business plans, innovative ideas, a clear vision of growth and ways to capture private investors to become a unicorn.

In ‘Unlocking Unicorn Secrets’, the authors conduct primary research and a series of interviews with the founders of billion-dollar companies to provide us information that is both accessible and informative.

The book covers themes such as developing an idea, building out the minimum viable product, finding a co-founder, setting up a founding team and raising funds, among others.

Praising the book Arundhati Bhattacharya, former chairperson of State Bank of India, said, “The book brings you the remarkable success stories of India’s unicorn founders. It serves as a powerful reminder that successful entrepreneurs are those who address user pain points, embrace resilience in the face of adversity and cultivate teams with complementary skills.”

Nirmal Jain, chairman, India Infoline Group, said, “There are a lot of challenges that entrepreneurs have to face, especially during their initial days. This book will help you understand how to tackle these challenges and stay ahead of the curve. Best wishes to Kushal and Ishan for coming up with such a great book.”

The book reveals the authors’ passion for inculcating an entrepreneurial mindset in the nation’s youth.

Lodha is the founder of KAGR, an ed-tech platform in finance upskilling. He is also a qualified chartered accountant (CA) and a part-time creator with over five lakh-plus followers on social media. In 2022, he was awarded with LinkedIn’s Top Voice honour.

Lodha also wrote ‘Acing CA’, a book that talks about his CA journey and opportunities for other CAs in and outside India.

Author Sharma is the co-founder of MarkitUp, a creative digital marketing agency, and is also a content creator with over 1.5 million followers on social media.

Sharma is also the author of ‘Crush It on LinkedIn: Build Your Brand, Get Hired & Expand Your Business’, a book where he shares how to get opportunities using LinkedIn.
