India marked its maiden Space Day on 23 August, celebrating one year since the successful soft-landing of Vikram lander on the lunar surface as part of the Chandrayaan-3 mission made India only the fourth country to land on the Moon and the first on its southern polar region.
The soft-landing was followed by successful deployment of Pragyan Rover.
Findings from the mission are the source of fascinating insights such as that a sea of hot, molten rock or magma once existed under the lunar surface—giving credence to the Lunar Magma Ocean origin theory.
