New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) National Convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday promised to revamp Gujarat’s health and education sectors as he began his two-day campaign in the state ahead of the Assembly polls later this year.

Armed with his deputy in Delhi, Education Minister Manish Sisodia, Kejriwal said: “We are guaranteeing that we’ll provide free and the best health treatment to all Gujaratis. Like Mohalla clinics, health clinics will be opened in cities and villages. We will improve government hospitals and new government hospitals will be opened if needed.”

He also lauded Sisodia’s work in strengthening the education sector in Delhi. “He (Manish Sisodia) reformed government schools which other parties could not do in 70 years. Such a person should get the Bharat Ratna. The entire country’s education system should be handed over to him, but instead, they conducted CBI raids on him,” Kejriwal said referring to the raids at Sisodia’s home and office on Friday in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy, 2021-22.

“The New York Times has praised the Delhi government’s education model. We will help Gujarat’s students get quality education too,” Kejriwal added.

The Delhi Chief Minister also said the “people of Gujarat were sad, having borne the brunt of the BJP’s arrogant regime of 27 years”.

This is Kejriwal’s fifth visit to the poll-bound state.

When he landed in Ahmedabad earlier in the day, Manish Sisodia reiterated his claim that the BJP offered to drop all charges against him if left the AAP and “broke it while leaving”.

He said: “I received a text saying CBI, ED cases would be taken back if you leave the party and break it while leaving it… they also promised me the post of CM. I am not here to become CM, but to give the best education to students across the country.”

Kejriwal also said Sisodia could be arrested any day. “Who knows? I may also be arrested… All this is being done for the Gujarat elections,” he said.
