New Delhi: The BJP Thursday removed its Bhopal MP Pragya Singh Thakur from Parliament defence consultative committee, a day after she praised Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse in the Lok Sabha.
She will also not be allowed to attend BJP parliamentary party meetings during the rest of the Winter Session.
The party’s working president J.P. Nadda condemned the remark Thakur made in Parliament Wednesday and said: “We have decided that Thakur will not attend meetings of BJP parliamentary party during the session.”
Thakur had only been made part of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Defence on 21 November.

Praise of Godse
The Malegaon blast accused had praised Godse, while interrupting DMK member A. Raja in the Lok Sabha during a debate on the Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill.
When Raja referred to Gandhi’s killing by Godse, she interrupted and praised the assassin, triggering a political controversy. After the opposition created an uproar in the Lok Sabha over the Bhopal MP’s remarks, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla expunged it from the records of the office.
Her views on Godse are not new as she had called him a “deshbhakt (patriot)” right after the elections in her constituency. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had then said he would not be able to forgive her for her comments but he had later justified the BJP’s decision to field her in the election.
