New Delhi: Days after the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) pressed for a two-child norm as part of a uniform population policy, BJP’s firebrand MLA from Rajasthan’s Hawa Mahal, Balmukund Acharya batted for a similar policy and said “four begums and 36 children” will not be allowed.
In a video, which has gone viral on social media, Acharya can be heard targeting a specific community, stating that the country’s population situation is worsening and calling for immediate implementation of a population control law.
“Chaar begum aur 36 bacche ab nahi chalenge. For the past several years, I have been continuously demanding that there should be ‘one law for one country’. Earlier, when we used to visit Jammu and Kashmir, we were asked whether we were from India. We felt the pain at that time. Today, after the removal of Article 370, the law which is being enforced across the country is also being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Last week, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma during a World Population Day function had said that one “category” of people is not paying heed to the government’s population control efforts.
“This campaign is different, everyone should be involved in it, but we see no change in one category. Despite the increasing population pressure, there is no improvement in it. We need to make such people aware that if the population grows in the future many problems will increase,” the CM had said.
The Rajasthan BJP legislator has said that population growth is a major issue and it is leading to imbalance, too. “There is a society which has four wives and 36 children. There are people in the House (Rajasthan assembly) who have three to four wives. The majority has one wife and maximum two children whereas the other class is somehow engaged in this work to have four wives and 36 children. This is wrong. There should be equal laws for everyone,” he added.
Acharya said ‘one country, one law’ should be implemented soon in the country and pointed out that he has already raised the demand for implementation of population control law in Rajasthan and will be writing to the state government.
“I will be raising the issue with the Centre, too, and urge them to implement this law,” he added.
The government, said Acharya, is providing benefits and welfare schemes to all, without any discrimination. “When without any discrimination benefits are being given to Ram and Rahim, then why shouldn’t there be similar laws for all? The country needs to progress and we will need to do our bit,” he added.
“There should be a population control law in this country and everyone should respect it,” he said.

irrespective of religion, population control is highly needed and surely no religion will stop it… for a nation to progress in the welfare of its citizens, population control is necessary.. but here in politics, its used only to blame others, especially the minority community, as if the majority community doesn’t have 36 kids with 1 wife and 3 extra marital affairs…. blaming other religions is absolute notorious and foolishness.. all people of india, irrespective of religion are responsible for the population growth, not a specific community. With the live-in relations getting accepted by govts n courts as legal, the population would sky rocket soon..
