SC collegium recommends Justices Dhulia, Pardiwala as judges for top court

Justice Dhulia will be the second Judge to be elevated from the Uttarakhand HC while Justice Pardiwala will be the fourth Parsi to be appointed as a judge of the apex court.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the appointment of Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Gujarat High Court Judge Justice Jamshed Burjor Pardiwala as judges of the apex court.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the collegium, a high-powered appointment panel led by Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana, comprising four other senior judges of the Supreme Court.

Justice Dhulia will be the second Judge to be elevated from the Uttarakhand High Court while Justice Pardiwala will be the fourth Parsi to adorn the Bench of the apex court.

A second generation legal professional, Justice Dhulia was born on 10 August, 1960, in Uttarakhand’s Lansdowne.

An alumnus of Allahabad university, where he studied Law, Justice Dhulia was appointed a judge of Uttarakhand High Court in November 2008 and later became the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court in January 2021.

Justice Pardiwala, a fourth generation legal professional, was born in Mumbai on 12 August, 1965.

He was appointed as the Standing Counsel for the Gujarat High Court in 2002 and held the post till his elevation to the Bench in February 2011.

Justice Pardiwala will also go on to become the Chief Justice of India if appointed as a judge of the top court, The Hindu reported.

The 5-member collegium is headed by CJI N.V. Ramana and has justices U.U. Lalit, A.M. Khanwilkar, D.Y. Chandrachud and L.N. Rao as its members.
