New Delhi: Delhi Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) after two unidentified men threatened to kill a Dwarka court judge earlier this month, ThePrint has learnt. This occurred one day before another Delhi judge was threatened and abused in court by the man she convicted.
According to sources, the judge was out for a walk on 1 April near his residence in Dwarka’s Kakrola area when two men stopped their car in front of him and told him, “Bohot bolte ho, bas kar jao, nahi toh uda denge (You talk too much, stop that or we will kill you).”
The judge filed a complaint with the local police, and an FIR was filed under sections for criminal ‘intimidation’ and ‘wrongful restraint.’
A senior police officer told ThePrint the car—a Wagon-R—was seen “in the CCTV footage, but the number plate isn’t visible. Further investigation is on”.
In a separate incident, reported by ThePrint earlier, an accused threatened a judge in open court following a conviction order on 2 April.
The accused, Raj Singh allegedly said, “Tu bahar mil, dekhte hai kaise zinda ghar jaati hai (Meet me outside, I will see how you return home alive),” the order signed by Judge Shivani Mangla said.
The accused, Raj Singh, was convicted in a case under Section 138 (dishonour of cheque) of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
She noted that after she passed the conviction order, Singh “erupted with anger on the judge in open court”, questioning how she could convict him. The order also said that the judge will take appropriate measures and approach the National Commission for Women, Delhi, over the threats and harassment.
Singh’s lawyer has also been accused of harassing the judge. The order said that Judge Mangla was pressured by the duo to resign and acquit the accused. They also threatened to file a complaint against the judge and forcibly arrange for her resignation. A notice was issued against the lawyer Atul Kumar, asking him to send a response on his misbehaviour in court and why contempt proceedings shouldn’t be initiated against him.
So far, no FIR has been lodged in the case against the accused and his lawyer. Senior police officials said that no complaint has been filed yet by the judge in the matter.
