Your Zomato order just got costlier: Food delivery app hikes platform fee, second hike in 6 months

This is the platform’s second hike in recent months. It comes six months after Zomato raised its platform fee, excluding GST, from Rs 10 to Rs 12.50 last September.

New Delhi: Online food ordering and delivery service Zomato has increased its platform fee from Rs 12.50 per order to Rs 14.90 per order, according to information available in the app Friday.

That translates into Rs 17.58 as the total platform charge when 18 percent GST is factored for each delivery.

Swiggy currently charges Rs 14.99 as its platform fee, including GST. In contrast, Magicpin, considered to be the third-largest player in the sector, decided against increasing its fee and has kept it at Rs 14.20 per order.

The newly launched Rapido-owned Ownly does not charge any platform fee, but levies a flat delivery/order fee of Rs 25 on orders below Rs 400 and Rs 50 on orders above Rs 500. Currently, Ownly operates only in Bengaluru.

The latest increase by Zomato is the second such hike in six months. Last September, it had raised its platform fee, excluding GST, from Rs 10 to Rs 12.50. The aggregator platform first introduced the platform fee in August 2023, at a nominal Rs 2, following its rival Swiggy, which began charging a flat Rs 2 fee from April 2023.

Zomato has not yet issued an official statement announcing the decision. (EOM)
