Mumbai, Mar 18 (PTI) The Maharashtra government on Wednesday said the process of preparing the revised development plan for Vasai-Virar region in Palghar district is underway and will be completed within the stipulated timeframe.

Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal told the legislative assembly that the intent to prepare the development plan was announced in October 2023 and initial stages have been completed.

She said a team led by an officer of deputy director rank was appointed on October 22, 2025, and is currently working on the plan.

The issue was raised through a calling attention notice by Rajan Naik, who flagged a shortage of expert manpower and demanded constitution of a committee through the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority under provisions of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act.

Participating in the discussion, members including Sneha Dubey and Yogesh Sagar raised related concerns.

Responding to the debate, Misal said the development plan incorporates the high-speed rail (bullet train) project and will factor in future changes.

She added that a consultant has been appointed to ensure quality of the plan, and a joint meeting of public representatives and officials will be held to review issues such as green zones.

The minister also said the government will positively consider the demand to appoint an IAS-rank municipal commissioner for the civic body. PTI MR NP
