Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 28 (PTI) Former DGP R Sreelekha, the BJP candidate from Vattiyoorkavu constituency for the April 9 Assembly polls, on Saturday said that women safety was an important issue for her as she had a bad experience while in service, when she had gone for a morning walk in the heart of of the state capital.
She that there was a time when women used to go for morning walks in the central part of the state capital, but now they do not due bad experiences in those areas.
“I too had a bad experience. I was in service at that time. But I dealt with it. Not everyone is able to,”she told a TV channel.
She said that when she becomes an MLA, after the April 9 assembly polls, her experience as a police officer will give confidence and courage to women of her constituency to venture out safely.
The BJP leader said that while development was the top priority, women safety falls within it.
Regarding the allegations from Congress leader and her competitor K Muraleedharan that BJP councillors were working for the CPI(M) candidate from the constituency, she termed it as baseless.
Sreelekha said that the BJP councillors have given her so much support that it has amazed her and she was thankful for it. PTI HMP SA
