Bahraich (UP), Mar 18 (PTI) A woman and her two-year-old son were killed, while her husband sustained severe injuries after a speeding truck hit their motorcycle at Matera crossing on the Bahraich-Nanpara road here on Wednesday, police said.
Sonu Nishad (25), a resident of Mahsi village in Hardi police station area, was returning home on a motorcycle with his wife Mangla (23) and their son Shiva (2) when a speeding truck rammed into their bike from behind at the crossing under Matera police station.
The impact threw Sonu to the other side of the road, while his wife and child were run over by the truck, resulting in their death on the spot, police said.
Sonu suffered serious injuries and has been admitted to the district hospital.
Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem and initiated further legal proceedings.
Matera Station House Officer Harikesh Singh said the truck driver, identified as Pannalal, a resident of Badaun, has been taken into custody.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the truck, loaded with potatoes, was travelling from Kasganj in Etah district to Gopalganj in Bihar. The exact cause of the accident is being investigated, police added. PTI COR ABN ARB ARB
