Koderma (Jharkhand), Mar 26 (PTI) Two persons, including a woman, were trampled to death by a wild elephant in Jharkhand’s Koderma district, a forest officer said on Thursday.
The elephant trampled a woman, identified as Maniya Birhorni (55), to death at Mariampur in Koderma police station area on Wednesday evening. It also injured another woman, who is being treated at Koderma Sadar Hospital, he said.
“The second incident happened around 2 am on Thursday in the same area. A man, who was sleeping outside, was trampled to death by the same elephant,” Koderma range forest officer Ram Babu said.
The deceased has been identified as Baleshwar Soren, a migrant labourer from Deoghar district.
Koderma Circle Officer Ravi Bhusan said the victims’ families have been provided Rs 25,000 each as immediate relief, while the rest of the compensation will be given after completion of some official formalities.
