Hathras (UP), Mar 16 (PTI) A 25-year-old man has allegedly raped a 24-year-old widow in this Uttar Pradesh district, police said on Monday.

The incident took place in a village located within the Sikandrarao police station limits. The accused fled the scene after committing the crime when the victim raised an alarm, police said.

A case has been registered.

According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday night. The victim, who has two children, resides with her mother-in-law in the village. Her mother-in-law had gone to visit relatives and she was at home with her children when the accused, a married man who lives in front of her house, allegedly scaled the wall and broke into her home.

Citing a written complaint submitted by the woman, police said after gaining entry into the house, the accused forcibly raped her. When she began screaming and shouting, he fled the spot after threatening her to remain silent.

The woman’s husband died in an accident around two years ago.

Circle Officer (Sikandrarao) J N Asthana said the matter is being probed and the accused will be arrested soon. PTI COR NAV RC
