New Delhi: A new study has shown that 58 per cent of Indians surveyed find their district to be heavily waterlogged.

As monsoon sweeps the country, this survey by LocalCircles reveals that heavy waterlogging is the reason behind being caught in traffic, losing working hours, vehicle wear and tear and even accidents.

The survey, which received over 22,000 responses from citizens across 293 districts, aimed to understand the extent of the waterlogging problem that is rampant in major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru during the monsoon.

The respondents were first asked to identify whether their city or district has got waterlogged in the past few years, to which, 94 per cent replied in the affirmative.

Out of 11,229 responses, 58 per cent also said they suffer greatly as their city or district gets affected “quite badly”.

The survey further asked participants the problems they faced due to waterlogging. Eighty-four per cent said they spent more time in traffic while 54 per cent said they ended up losing working hours.

A question, which received over 11,000 responses, revealed that 68 per cent of participants said waterlogging ruined their vehicles, while 68 per cent said it raised the risk of accidents.

Almost 70 per cent of the survey’s respondents were men while 31 per cent were women. Forty-eight per cent were from tier 1 cities, 33 per cent from tier 2 and 19 per cent from tier 3, 4 and rural districts.
