Shillong, Apr 3 (PTI) Meghalaya is likely to experience above-normal temperatures and below-normal rainfall during the April-June period this year, though no heat wave conditions are expected, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

According to the seasonal outlook issued by the IMD, maximum and minimum temperatures across the state are likely to be above normal.

Despite the rise in temperatures, heat wave conditions are not likely across the state during the period, the weather office said on Thursday.

It indicated that rainfall over many parts of the Northeast, including Meghalaya, is likely to be below normal during the period.

Officials said the warmer-than-usual conditions during both daytime and nighttime may lead to increased thermal discomfort, particularly during dry spells.

The below-normal rainfall is also expected to have implications for water availability and agricultural activities, especially in rain-dependent areas of the state, they said. PTI JOP ACD
