New Delhi: Anmol Bishnoi, younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and an accused in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, is set to be brought back to India “in the next few hours,” ThePrint has learnt. “His deportation process has been completed. He should be in India soon, likely in the next few hours,” a police source told ThePrint Tuesday.
Anmol is wanted in at least 18 cases in India, including the shooting incident outside actor Salman Khan’s residence. Mumbai police have named him in the chargesheet in this case.
In an email to Baba Siddique’s son Zeeshan, American officials informed him Tuesday that Anmol “has been removed” from the US. A former state minister and three-term MLA, Baba Siddique was shot outside his son Zeeshan’s camp office in Bandra on 12 October last year.
Mumbai Police Crime Branch arrested 26 people in connection with the probe. Investigators alleged that Anmol Bishnoi was behind the conspiracy to murder Baba Siddique. Anmol is also wanted in connection with the 2022 murder of performer Sidhu Moose Wala.
An audio clip mentioned in Mumbai police’s chargesheet in the shooting incident suggests Anmol had told the shooters, “Lord Ram has blessed us. We will handle him (Salman Khan). There is no problem, as long as it is in my control, I don’t have any problem.”
According to investigators, Anmol had been overseeing key operations for brother Lawrence after he fled to the US, fearing action by Indian agencies.
Anmol is suspected to have fled on a fake passport after Moose Wala’s killing. Court documents seen by ThePrint show Anmol was lodged in a Rajasthan jail in a 2017 case on charges of criminal conspiracy and attempted murder, among others. In July last year, a Mumbai court issued a non-bailable warrant against him. At the time, investigators had reason to believe that Anmol fled to Azerbaijan before changing his location.
As ThePrint reported earlier, Anmol was detained in the US last November for using “forged documents” to stay in the country. He was then in the custody of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2024 announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for any information that might lead them to Anmol Bishnoi.
