Agartala, Mar 18 (PTI) The State Election Commission (SEC) on Wednesday advanced the polling date for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections to April 12 from April 13, officials said.

The decision followed a unanimous resolution passed in the Assembly, urging the SEC to change the date to avoid a clash with Garia Puja festival.

State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar, in an extraordinary gazette notification, said polling for the 28-member tribal council will be held on April 12, while counting will take place on April 17.

Kumar said the last date for filing of nomination will be March 25, while scrutiny will be done on March 26, and the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is March 28.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Kumar had announced that voting will be held on April 13.

The entire election process will have to be completed before April 18 to pave the way for the constitution of the new autonomous district tribal council. PTI PS MNB
