Imphal, Mar 25 (PTI) Violent protests erupted in Manipur’s Churachandpur district after two civilians were injured in a road accident involving a vehicle of the security forces on Wednesday evening, officials said.

The accident took place around 6.30 pm in Tuibong area when a security force vehicle allegedly hit two individuals riding a two-wheeler.

The injured individuals were rushed to the hospital, where they were discharged after first aid, an official said.

Officials said eyewitnesses claimed the vehicle of the security forces did not stop after the incident, enraging the locals who then staged violent protests.

Enraged locals also set fire to another vehicle belonging to the security forces, further escalating the situation.

Additional security forces reached the site and fired tear gas shells to disperse the agitated crowd and bring the situation under control, the officials added. PTI COR ACD
