New Delhi, Mar 12 (PTI) The details of sanctioned strength and persons-in-position made through direct recruitment in respect of various Group A services are maintained by the respective cadre controlling authorities or ministries concerned, the Centre said on Thursday.
Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said this in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
The minister was asked for details of the sanctioned and in-position strength of Grade A services under the central government as on February 18, 2026.
“The details of sanctioned strength, persons-in-position appointments made through direct recruitment (and category-wise details thereof) in respect of various Group A services are maintained by the respective cadre controlling authorities/ ministries/departments,” Singh said.
Information on candidates recommended for appointment through direct recruitment by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to various Group A posts in central government, along with SC, ST, OBC category-wise details is available in the annual reports of the Commission which are publicly accessible at https://upsc.gov.in/annual-reports, he said.
Compiled information on sanctioned strength and persons-in-position (including for Group A posts) in central government is available in annual reports of the Pay Research Unit, Department of Expenditure, which are publicly accessible at https://doe.gov.in/annual-report-pay-and-allowances, the minister said.
In a separate reply, Singh said the government has issued instructions vide an official order dated September 30, 2009 to all ministries/departments on posting of husband and wife at the same station, where one of the spouses is in central government service.
“No proposal for extending the scope to autonomous/statutory bodies and institutes is under consideration of the government,” the minister said, when asked whether there was any move to extend its applicability to autonomous/statutory bodies and in the central government by central Acts/rules.
To another query seeking details about central government officers whose tenure has been extended beyond the prescribed age of superannuation or who were re-employed into services after retirement, he said “matters pertaining to extension of service beyond superannuation or re-employment are considered by the concerned ministries/ departments in certain exceptional circumstances, in public interest, as per provisions contained in Fundamental Rules”.
