Lucknow, Apr 12 (PTI) Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said farmers are facing neglect under the BJP government, even as unseasonal rains, strong winds and hailstorms have caused widespread crop damage in Uttar Pradesh.
In a statement, Yadav said farmers across the state have suffered heavy losses, with damage to standing crops of wheat, mustard and other produce. Several districts, including Mainpuri, Kannauj, Barabanki, Sitapur, Hathras, Ayodhya, Meerut, Pilibhit, Mathura, Hardoi, Sonbhadra and Shravasti have reported large-scale damage, with wheat crops flattened and soaked.
Despite the extent of losses, the state government has not provided any compensation or assistance to farmers so far, he alleged.
“The chief minister and the ministers have only made hollow announcements and carried out aerial surveys; no concrete help has reached farmers,” Yadav said.
He said farmers are struggling for survival as crop loss have left them in distress. Rising input costs, coupled with adverse weather, have worsened the crisis.
The Samajwadi Party chief further accused the BJP of being “anti-farmer” and making false claims about farmers’ welfare.
He alleged that wheat procurement is not taking place effectively and farmers are not getting fair prices for their produce. Potato growers have also incurred heavy losses due to low prices.
Accusing the BJP government of neglecting agricultural markets, Yadav said the mandi infrastructure was developed during the Samajwadi Party’s tenure, while the current state government has stalled such initiatives. PTI ABN ABN RUK RUK RUK
