Bhadohi (UP), Apr 9 (PTI) An FIR has been registered against an unidentified person for allegedly posting objectionable remarks about Hindu deities on social media in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi district, officials said on Thursday.

The case was lodged on Wednesday at Gopiganj police station on the complaint of district social media cell in-charge Inspector Praveen Kumar Rai against an unknown person operating a Facebook account named ‘Gareeb Gautam Videos’.

A video containing objectionable comments about Hindu deities and also showing alleged tampering with idols had been circulated through the said Facebook account, police said.

A user identified as ‘@ankur 46’ had brought the matter to the notice of the district social media cell, following which a complaint was filed, police said.

Based on screenshots and other evidence, a case has been registered against the unidentified operator of the Facebook account on charges of disturbing communal harmony, they added.

Efforts are underway to trace the accused. PTI COR ABN DV DV
