Meerut (UP), Mar 26 (PTI) Three brothers from a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district have donated a residential plot for raising funds for families of children killed during the recent attacks in Iran, drawing both appreciation and objection.
While locals of Rasoolpur Dhauldi village in Jani Khurd area have hailed this gesture of the Mustafa brothers, a former national executive member of BJP Yuva Morcha has raised questions over the matter and sought an inquiry into the donation process.
Aman Mustafa, son of late social worker Sarkar Hussain, told PTI on Thursday that reports of children being killed during the US-Israel attacks on Iran deeply affected his family.
He said he, along with his elder brother Yasir and younger brother Subar, decided to donate their 125-square-yard plot in the village, estimated to be worth around Rs 15 lakh, to help the affected families.
The brothers handed over the ownership documents of the plot to office-bearers of Anjuman Hussainia on Wednesday in the presence of its president Suleman Abbas, secretary Nazir Hussain and treasurer Tanveer Haider, among others.
Aman Mustafa said the donation was made at a personal level without any intention of publicity and aimed solely at extending assistance to the victims’ families.
Haider said the organisation, which is registered in Uttar Pradesh, has been involved in social and humanitarian work. He added that people from different communities, including Shia, Sunni and Hindu groups in the village, have collectively contributed around Rs 30 lakh, including the plot donated by the brothers.
He said efforts are being made to ensure that the collected funds are sent transparently to the affected families in Iran, and preparations are underway to hand over the amount to Iran’s ambassador in Delhi.
Meanwhile, former BJP Yuva Morcha leader Ankit Chaudhary, in a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, urged the administration to verify the source of the brothers’ assets and ensure that the donation process complies with legal provisions.
He said transparency and adherence to legal procedures were essential in such matters to avoid any irregularities.
