Etah (UP), Mar 22 (PTI) Festive cheer ahead of Eid turned into mourning for a family here, as an ailing man died hours after his son, who had returned home to care for him, passed away, officials said on Sunday.

According to police, Rafiq Khan (70) was suffering from a kidney ailment and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Agra. His son, Zakil (40), a Mumbai-based tailor, had returned to the village around a week ago after learning about his father’s condition.

On March 19, Zakil brought his father back home after he was discharged from the hospital. Later that night, Zakil complained of sudden chest pain, police added.

He was initially treated by a local practitioner, but his condition worsened, and he was rushed to a private hospital in Jalesar, where doctors declared him dead.

The body was brought back to the village and kept at home as the family awaited the arrival of his wife and children from Mumbai. Shocked by his son’s death, Rafiq Khan’s condition deteriorated, and he died on Friday night, they said.

The deaths within a span of around 20 hours cast a pall of gloom over the village.

Residents said Zakil’s family reached the village in the Jalesar area on Saturday, following which both were buried together after afternoon prayers.

Former village head Babu Khan said Zakil was the second among four brothers and is survived by his wife and four children. PTI COR CDN OZ OZ
