Bahraich (UP), Jun 20 (UP) Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Friday launched a conservation programme for gharial species here.
During a boat safari on the Gerua River in Katarniaghat, the minister released seven one-year-old gharial hatchlings into the river’s currents, marking the official start of the initiative, officials said.
During his boat ride, Yadav observed dolphins, crocodiles and gharials, officials said.
Speaking to reporters, the Union minister said a meeting was held during his visit to Dudhwa Tiger Reserve with public representatives, departmental officials, conservation NGOs and villagers residing near forest areas.
He noted that numerous suggestions were received and these would be incorporated into a new action plan for the development and conservation of forests and wildlife.
Furthermore, Yadav instructed departmental officials to ensure timely action on pending cases related to human-wildlife conflict compensation to avoid delays in providing assistance to victims.
He said the central government has issued a new notification increasing compensation amounts for such cases and the Uttar Pradesh government will soon issue a notification to implement these changes. PTI COR CDN KSS KSS
