New Delhi: In view of the apprehension that the existing District/Referral Hospitals (DH/RH) under the medical colleges will stop receiving funding from the National Health Mission (NHM), the Union Health Secretary, Apurva Chandra, has written a letter to the State government, a PIB press release stated.

In the letter, he has clarified that all the existing DH/RH which are being converted into medical colleges will continue their roles and obligations under NHM and will continue to receive funding support from the central government under NHM.

Under the central scheme for the establishment of new medical colleges by strengthening and upgrading the district hospitals, 157 medical colleges have been sanctioned under three phases. Of these 157 medical colleges, 108 have already become functional. Of the 157 colleges approved, 40 are located in the aspirational districts.
