New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra alleged Saturday that three BSF personnel “armed with assault rifles” have been deployed outside her residence in New Delhi without her consent or knowledge. In a letter to the Barakhamba Road station of Delhi Police, she said “it appears to me that I am under some sort of surveillance”.

Moitra shared the letter, addressed to the station house officer with a copy marked to Delhi Police commissioner S.N. Shrivastava, on Twitter.

“This is to inform you that SHO, Police Station Barakhamba Road, had come to meet me at my residence yesterday (i.e., 12thFebruary, 2021) around 1830 hours, and shortly thereafter, around 2200 hours, 3 BSF officers armed with assault rifles had been deputed outside my residence,” she wrote.

She added, “The conduct of these officers indicates that they are making note of my movements to and from my residence, it appears to me that I am under some sort of surveillance.”

Moitra said she was informed upon making inquiries that “the armed officers had been deputed from Police Road Barakhamba Road for my protection.”

“…However, I being an ordinary citizen of this country, did neither ask, nor want any such protection,” she added. In the letter, Moitra requested that the personnel be withdrawn from her residence.

ThePrint contacted Delhi Police Additional Public Relations Officer (PRO) Anil Mittal by call and message for a comment on Moitra’s letter, but hadn’t received a response by the time of publishing this report.
