New Delhi: The government of United Kingdom government announced a contribution of GBP11 million (approximately USD 13.9 million) to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for 2024. This funding will support UNDP’s work in advancing sustainable development across 170 countries and territories, a UNDP release stated.
The core resources provided by the United Kingdom will enable UNDP to direct funding to where it is most needed, addressing critical global challenges such as climate change, poverty, and governance, the release added. The funding is particularly crucial in the current context of global conflicts and disasters, helping to save lives, protect livelihoods, and maintain developmental progress.
The UNDP plans to utilise the funding to strengthen its commitment to leaving no one behind and upholding transparency and accountability. The organization is recognized for its transparency among international organizations, a distinction made possible by the consistent support of partners like the United Kingdom.
UNDP eagerly anticipates continued collaboration with the United Kingdom to deliver meaningful developmental impact globally, the agency said in the release. “Working together, we can achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and ensure a better future for people and the planet,” it added.
