Bhagalpur, Mar 22 (PTI) Two teenagers drowned while taking a bath in the Ganga river in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district on Sunday, police said.

The incident occurred around 4:30 pm at Bateshwar Sthan under the Antichak Police Station limits, an officer said.

The deceased have been identified as Krishna Kumar (16) of Pirpainti town and Ashish Kumar (15) of Bakharpur village, Antichak SHO Uma Shankar said.

Both were maternal cousins.

“The teenagers had come with their families for the funeral of a relative and drowned while bathing in the river,” the SHO said.

According to eyewitnesses, following the cremation, both of them went to take a bath in the river at the Balu Ghat, during which they ventured into deep waters and drowned.

After the family members raised an alarm, local divers and an SDRF team searched and retrieved them from the river, the officer said.

The two teenagers were taken to the Sadar Hospital in Kahalgaon, where they were declared dead, he added. PTI CORR SUK BDC
