Jhansi (UP), Apr 6 (PTI) Two teenagers were feared drowned while two others were rescued after a boat capsized in a dam in Raksa area of Jhansi district, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday evening when four friends had gone for a picnic to Gariya dam. They boarded an unattended boat and ventured into deep waters, where it lost balance and capsized, throwing all of them into the dam.

Hearing their cries, a fisherman, identified as Kallu Kevat, rushed to the spot in his boat and managed to rescue two of the youths, officials said.

Police from nearby stations reached the spot and conducted a search operation with the help of local divers late into the night, but could not trace the missing teenagers. Station House Officer, Raksa, Rupesh Kumar said a State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) team has been called to join the rescue operation. Further search efforts are underway, he added.

The rescued have been identified as Shravan Tiwari (19) and Shaurya (18), while Vedansh Yadav (18) and Atif Mansoori (19) are yet to be traced. PTI COR ABN ABN DV DV
