Chennai, Mar 16 (PTI) The TVK on Monday dismissed as “false” the claims of talks with AIADMK-BJP to forge an alliance for the Assembly polls and alleged that the ruling DMK was behind rumours to create confusion.
CTR Nirmal Kumar, party deputy general secretary, said eyeing political gain, false news was being disseminated by a few media outlets and social media handles.
In particular, claims of talks for an alliance between the TVK and BJP-AIADMK, and parties led by leaders VK Sasikala and S Ramadoss are out-and-out contrary to truth, Kumar, who is also the principal spokesperson, said in a statement.
“We would like to make it categorical that no talks of any kind have taken place with any specific parties or political leaders at any level,” he said.
This same ‘tactic of spreading false news’ was employed to link TVK with various political parties, including the Congress and it is widely known that such claims were wholly untrue.
Nevertheless, such “baseless news” was being spread by “DMK members” to continuously create confusion among the public and workers, the TVK leader alleged.
“Truth alone will triumph…responsible media outlets and social media users, please do not share rumours,” he said and urged everyone to check the authenticity of claims before circulating it.
On March 15, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said neither his party nor allies have held talks with the actor-politician Vijay-led TVK for the April 23 Assembly polls.
Speaking to reporters at an Iftar event held by the party here on Sunday, Palaniswami, flanked by Tamil Nadu BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran and AMMK chief TTV Dhinakaran, when asked if he wished TVK to be part of the AIADMK-led NDA, said: “I have said this before. So far, AIADMK and leaders of its alliance parties have not held talks with the party that you have mentioned (in order to form an alliance for the Assembly polls).” Palaniswami’s comment on Sunday is the third such assertion and he had on March 11 and 14 ruled out scope for alliance with TVK and had dismissed it as mere media speculation.
