Guwahati, Feb 26 (PTI) Union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said 3Ts — trade, technology and tourism along with 3Is — industry, infrastructure and investment — will take Assam towards development.
“Unprecedented progress is taking place in Assam which is the ‘crown of the Ashtalakshmi’ states of the Northeast region. It will surge further ahead due to the talent, hardwork and hospitality of the people of the state,” Goyal said at the valedictory session of Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure summit here.
Assam government rejected various investment proposals during the summit but focused on the practical and possible ones which could be implemented, he said.
Infrastructure projects in the state, particularly modernisation of airports, will lead to promotion of tourism, the minister added.
“Assam should pursue high-value tourism which sustains environment and promotes economic activities”, he said.
A permanent exhibition hall and convention centre such as the Bharat Mandapam will be set up in Assam as a joint venture between the Centre and the state government, Goyal said.
Referring to the 200-year old tea industry in the state, the minister said both the Centre and the state governments will together take measures to ensure that the industry maintains its global status.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi, witnessing the traditional dance of the tea-tribe community ‘Jhumoir Binandini’ by nearly 9,000 artistes, is also an attempt to take tea to the world,” Goyal said.
“Assam has already started making progress in the field of health and education, with 18 new medical colleges and seven nursing colleges, along with the introduction of foreign language programmes in universities to equip local students for global opportunities,” he added.
The state, with its rich resources, strong leadership, and commitment to development, is a dependable and progressing state, he said.
He thanked chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the organisers, and all stakeholders for their role in making the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit a resounding success and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to the state’s continued growth and prosperity.
He lauded Sarma’s leadership and his dedication and relentless efforts for the welfare of the people of the state.
