Chennai, Mar 21 (PTI) The people of Tamil Nadu are temperamentally very scientific, good in technical education and science but love films, movie stars and have built a cult-kind of respect and stature for actors, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Saturday.

Without mentioning anyone, the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs said the people of the state were a “very interesting society.” “Tamil people are so talented, they can do wonders if they get good governance,” the minister told reporters here.

The BJP leader, who was in the city and attended a private function and addressed law students, said ground reports from the state indicated that there was “discontentment” among the people and that the “anti-incumbency factor is unprecedented.” “There’s a huge undercurrent anti-incumbency factor in Tamil Nadu. So, because of that the NDA will come to power. People are saying that they are unhappy with the DMK government. So, NDA will form the government in Tamil Nadu. This is the ground situation reports indicate,” he said.

To a question, Rijiju replied “Tamil people are temperamentally very scientific, good in technical education, science, and at the same time love films and film stars. And they built a cult-kind of respect and stature for film stars. A very interesting society.” Tamils were so talented that they would create wonders if they were provided good governance, he added.

On the impact of the Gulf war on India, he said though the impact was all over the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Centre “very efficiently managed the economy.” PTI JSP JSP SA
