Thunderstorm hits north Kolkata, disrupts flight services for some time

Kolkata, Mar 26 (PTI) A thunderstorm hit northern parts of Kolkata and adjoining North 24 Parganas district on Thursday, with wind speeds reaching 57 kmph, affecting flight operations at the NSCBI airport, the IMD said.

The IMD recorded 26 mm rainfall at the airport, with the thunderstorm peaking at 4.50 pm.

As a precaution, flight operations were temporarily suspended, an airport official said.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s private plane, scheduled to land around that time, was unable to land for some time due to the storm.
