Thane, Mar 25 (PTI) The Thane Zilla Parishad in Maharashtra on Wednesday presented its budget for the financial year 2026-27, proposing a total expenditure of Rs 116.93 crore with a focus on strengthening roads and launching various women-centric schemes.
Talking to reporters, the Thane ZP CEO Ranjit Yadav said the Women and Child Welfare Department has been allocated Rs 4.89 crore, which will cover various empowerment schemes, including computer education for girls and a bicycle distribution programme.
The budget also earmarks Rs 25 lakh for the ‘pink room’ initiative in the Zilla Parishad schools.
“These pink room facilities, coupled with the provision of sanitary napkins, are designed to ensure that girl students in rural areas have access to a safe, private, and hygienic space, thereby reducing dropout rates and promoting menstrual health,” he said.
The construction department has been given the highest allocation of Rs 19.87 crore to strengthen rural roads and administrative buildings.
