Shimla, Apr 7 (PTI) TB cases in Himachal Pradesh were down to 14,653 in 2025 from 15,760 in 2022, a decline of over seven per cent, Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta said on Tuesday.
Eliminating tuberculosis (TB) is not a responsibility of the Health Department alone, and it should become a people’s movement, he said, while inaugurating an Ayushman Arogya Camp at Divya Manav Jyoti Seva Trust in Sundernagar of Mandi district.
Speaking on the occasion of World Health Day, he said that nearly 1.49 million high-risk people in the state have been fully screened under a Government of India initiative.
Of these, about 700,000 people, or 46 per cent, were tested through X-ray, which is better than the national average, he said.
The governor said that under the TB-Free Gram Panchayat initiative, community efforts have yielded encouraging results.
Out of 3,615 gram panchayats in the state, 731 (20 per cent) were declared TB-free in 2023, 823 (23 per cent) in 2024, and 1,052 (29 per cent) in 2025.
Gupta said that under the current 100-day campaign, 5,176 high-risk villages and urban ward areas were identified where Ayushman Arogya Camps were being organised to ensure early detection and treatment of TB cases.
Gupta said his office has written to all ministers, members of Parliament and members of the Legislative Assembly for their support.
He requested all public representatives, government officials, employees and members of the public to become ‘Nikshay Mitra’ by adopting TB patients and helping them with complete treatment, nutrition and emotional support. PTI BPL VN VN
