Kolkata, Mar 22 (PTI) West Bengal Governor R N Ravi on Sunday observed Bihar Diwas at Lok Bhavan here and said the creation of states was aimed at ensuring better administration and governance.
Ravi also highlighted the historical context of the formation of Bihar, which was carved out of Bengal Presidency on March 22, 1912.
“The tradition of celebrating Bihar Day and other states’ foundation days began years ago. Bihar was formed as a state on March 22, 1912, making it 114 years old. Though Jharkhand later separated, the foundation of Bihar as a state dates back to that time,” he said.
Before 1912, there was no formal state called Bihar, though the people and the land were always there, he said.
“The practice of creating states began under British rule and continued after independence to ensure better administration and governance,” the governor added.
The event was attended by people from Bihar and other dignitaries. PTI SCH BDC
