SSB jawan shoots self dead in Jharkhand’s Chatra, probe underway

Chatra (Jharkhand), Mar 18 (PTI) A 31-year-old Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan allegedly died by suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Jharkhand’s Chatra district, police said on Wednesday.

The incident happened at Shila picket, under the jurisdiction of Simaria police station. The deceased has been identified as Prahlad Kumar Singh, a resident of Mahtodih village in Deoghar district, they said.

“The jawan allegedly shot himself dead with his service rifle. The incident occurred around 8 pm on Tuesday. He was posted at Shila picket. The body has been sent to Chatra Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. The autopsy will be conducted by a team of doctors under the supervision of a magistrate,” Shila outpost in-charge Harishchandra Tirvar told PTI.

“The reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained. The family members of the jawan have arrived. They said that everything was going well and that, before taking the extreme step, he had a normal conversation with them,” he said.
