Guwahati, Mar 21 (PTI) Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Director General Sanjay Singhal on Saturday reviewed the force’s preparedness to ensure free, fair and peaceful assembly elections in Assam.
During his day-long visit, he interacted with local police officials as well as representatives of the Bhutan administration.
The SSB is responsible for guarding the India-Bhutan border in Assam.
Singhal was received at Guwahati airport by Sudhir Verma, Inspector General of the Guwahati Frontier, following which he visited the Sector Headquarters at Rangia, a spokesperson said.
He chaired a meeting with SSB nodal officers deployed for the Assam elections, including ad hoc commandants, district coordination officers and company commanders, and issued necessary directions to ensure peaceful polling.
The DG later visited Udalguri, where he interacted with personnel deployed on election duty and reviewed arrangements with district superintendents of police, focusing on law and order preparedness, the spokesperson said.
The assembly elections are scheduled to be held on April 9, with counting of votes on May 4.
Singhal also inspected the Darranga–Samdrup Jongkhar trade transit route, where he interacted with Bhutanese officials and members of the local administration.
During the visit, he inspected the Integrated Check Post at Darranga and stressed the increased use of modern technological tools for effective monitoring.
He also visited a Border Out Post of the SSB and addressed personnel at a Sainik Sammelan, urging them to maintain good health and further strengthen operational preparedness. PTI SSG SSG SOM
