Mumbai, Mar 16 (PTI) Proposals for six cluster redevelopment projects of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) in the city were under consideration, and efforts are underway to expedite the process, Minister Shambhuraj Desai said on Monday.
The minister informed the state assembly that with the government amending norms under redevelopment regulations to streamline approvals and attract private developers, 10 proposals were approved in recent months, and one No Objection Certificate (NOC) was issued.
He said that six additional cluster redevelopment proposals are under active consideration, and efforts are underway to expedite processing and clear bottlenecks.
Desai further assured that NOCs issued by the government include clear timelines for commencement and completion of works, and close monitoring of compliance.
He noted that MHADA has earmarked funds for repairs and redevelopment, and priority will be given to projects where developers and tenants submit comprehensive proposals that can be fast-tracked.
The minister acknowledged concerns raised by members about procedural delays due to documentation, succession verification and statutory requirements, and said these would be addressed through meetings involving senior officials, developers’ associations and tenants’ representatives before presenting final recommendations.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to complete long-pending projects such as the Patra Chawl redevelopment and resolving residents’ grievances, including quality and handover issues, in consultation with stakeholders.
Court processes and vested interests have contributed to delays, but the administration stands ready to facilitate allotment and rehabilitation as per legal and technical mandates, Desai said. PTI MR ARU
