Puducherry, Mar 23 (PTI) Puducherry sitting Congress MP, V Vaithilingam, filed his nomination on Monday for the Thattanchavady constituency here, setting the stage for a direct confrontation with incumbent Chief Minister and AINRC leader N Rangasamy.

A two-time CM (from 1991 to 1996 and 2008 to 2011) and current Lok Sabha MP, Vaithilingam filed his nomination today.

His entry as a sitting MP signals the Congress-DMK alliance’s intent to reclaim the ground.

Rangasamy has been defending Thattanchavady constituency, which has been his “pocket borough” since his maiden victory in 1990.

The contest in Thattanchavady constituency represents a rare face-off between a sitting CM and a former Chief Minister, making it the most watched seat in the union territory.

The last day to file nominations was today. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on Tuesday, while the last day to withdraw nominations is March 26.

The assembly election for the union territory will be held on April 9. PTI COR ROH
